Tourism earns state $8.9 billion
Alabama's tourism industry took in $8.9 billion in the fiscal year that ended Sept. 30, an increase of 14 percent, or more than $1 billion, state officials said today.
Spending by travelers in Alabama has expanded by 33 percent over the past four years, officials said.

Alabama tourism hits record $7.6 billion

Alabama was the tourism hot spot last year, thanks in large to golf.
"We have 16 guys that go on a golf tour every year, and this is a great place to play. We enjoyed it a lot. We come to (Robert) Trent Jones facilities often. This is one we haven't been to yet, so we're fully enjoying it," said Ron Levondosky, a golfer from Tampa, Florida.
Most of the $7.6 billion came from counties with Robert Trent Jones Trail golf courses. Lee County's tourism increased by 11 percent last year, surpassing the state average of 3.3percent.
