    Gulf Shores- Orange Beach
Something magic happens when you visit the Alabama Gulf Coast. The moment you arrive, the world starts to fade away. Maybe it's the sound of waves gently lapping the shore or the smell of coconut oil. Perhaps it's our white sand beach and sparkling emerald water. Suddenly building sandcastles moves to the top of your "to-do" list. You remember just how much fun your spouse is. You find yourself laughing at your son's "knock-knock" joke, even though you've heard it a zillion times. You linger over a succulent, fresh seafood dinner where nobody rushes to get away from the table. A great getaway is closer than you think. A visit to Gulf Shores and Orange Beach offers the perfect balance of non-stop activity and lay-around-doing-nothing time. Putter around a bit on one of our championship golf courses. Cast your line for deep-sea adventure on a charter fishing trip. Travel back in history with a visit to Fort Morgan, the site of the Civil War Battle of Mobile Bay. Commune with Mother Nature as you hike through one of our Alabama wildlife areas and gaze at gators and shorebirds. Whether vacationing with family, escaping with the one you love, attending an annual convention or corporate retreat, you can choose from national hotel and motel chains, top-notch condominiums or a variety of beach house rentals.

    Historic Wintzell's Oyster House
Wintzell's, a landmark on Dauphin Street for decades in Historic Mobile, Alabama, has been sold to SouthernPointe Group, Inc. Known far and wide for its "Oyster—fried, stewed or nude," Wintzell's Oyster House was founded in 1938 by Oliver Wintzell. Through economic boom and bust Wintzell's has been continuously at its original location on Lower Dauphin Street. Although the family sold the restaurant in the 1970's, the original interior with its walls covered with Oliver's homespun sayings, are still intact today. Selections from his sayings are randomly displayed throughout this site. Famous for fresh Gulf seafood, Wintzell's was named in Willard Scott's All-American Cookbook for the Best Oysters and Crabs.

    The Bright Star
In 1907, a small cafe with only a horseshoe-shaped bar opened its doors to the bustling community of Bessemer, Alabama. Outgrowing three locations, the Bright Star moved to its present site in 1914, and patrons were introduced to a new dining atmosphere. Ceiling fans, tile floors, mirrored and marbled walls - most of which exist today - reflect the style of that era. Murals painted by an itinerant European artist are another interesting feature of the past. Major alterations and renovations of the premises and kitchen were completed in 1966, and the dining room was expanded in 1978 with the addition of the "1907" room.
