Wintzell's, a landmark on Dauphin Street for decades in Historic Mobile, Alabama, has been sold to SouthernPointe Group, Inc. Known far and wide for its "Oyster—fried, stewed or nude," Wintzell's Oyster House was founded in 1938 by Oliver Wintzell. Through economic boom and bust Wintzell's has been continuously at its original location on Lower Dauphin Street. Although the family sold the restaurant in the 1970's, the original interior with its walls covered with Oliver's homespun sayings, are still intact today. Selections from his sayings are randomly displayed throughout this site. Famous for fresh Gulf seafood, Wintzell's was named in Willard Scott's All-American Cookbook for the Best Oysters and Crabs.

The doors of The Irondale Cafe were first opened in 1928 as a hot dog stand by Emmett Montgomery. Maggie Prentice came along shortly thereafter, to add hamburgers, barbecue, and a variety of sandwiches to the menu, and in 1932 Miss Bess Fortenberry purchased the business. The “stand” was renamed the Irondale Café, and the rest, as they say, is history.

In 1907, a small cafe with only a horseshoe-shaped bar opened its doors to the bustling community of Bessemer, Alabama. Outgrowing three locations, the Bright Star moved to its present site in 1914, and patrons were introduced to a new dining atmosphere. Ceiling fans, tile floors, mirrored and marbled walls - most of which exist today - reflect the style of that era. Murals painted by an itinerant European artist are another interesting feature of the past. Major alterations and renovations of the premises and kitchen were completed in 1966, and the dining room was expanded in 1978 with the addition of the "1907" room.

he Warehouse Bistro, located in Opelika's oldest industrial park since 1993, is the area's best in casual fine dining. WorkPlay Wednesdays features food from area restaurants, $5 martinis and live music ranging from local DJs, singer/songwriters and acoustic duos. “We decided to create an atmosphere where people can mix and mingle and meet new friends before heading home or to dinner,” Alan Hunter, co-owner of WorkPlay, said. “WorkPlay Wednesdays is so cool, I’m hanging out there myself!” WorkPlay Wednesdays’ martini menu features Appletinis, Orange Martinis, Cosmopolitans, Margartinis and the Classic Martini for only $5 from 5 pm – 8 pm each Wednesday. The Huntsville Museum of Art, North Alabama’s leading visual arts center, moved to its beautiful facility in Big Spring International Park in March 1998. The nationally-accredited Museum fills its seven galleries with a variety of exhibitions throughout the year, including prestigious traveling exhibits and the work of nationally and regionally acclaimed artists. The Museum’s own 2,522-piece permanent collection also forms the basis for several exhibitions each year. The Mentone Springs Hotel was built in 1884 by Dr. J. Frank Caldwell of Pennsylvania. Dr. Caldwell had visited the mountain while ill and his health was restored after drinking the mineral spring water on the property. Selling all of his possessions, he moved back to Mentone and built this wonderful Queen Anne Victorian Hotel, the Oldest Hotel in the State of Alabama.

ARICCIA is named after the ancient town of Ariccia, Italy, located in the “Castelli Romani” region and is situated 17 miles southeast of Rome. Ariccia is home to the famous Palazzo Chigi which was reconstructed in the late 17th century by Gian Lorenzo Bernini, an acclaimed Italian architect, sculptor and painter. The nearby “Castel Gandolfo” has been the Pope’s summer residence since the 12th century and remains so today. Notably, Ariccia is the home of the international campus of Auburn University, College of Human Sciences and is therefore the inspiration behind the name. Savor grill-fired fish, chops and steaks.
